Growing up in a big family meant many hours in the kitchen. Whether we were socializing, telling stories, boasting over our accomplishments or simply enjoying Momalu’s home cooking, the kitchen was our home.
Momalu is my Mom. As soon as I could hold a spoon I became her little helper. By the time I was 8, I was baking birthday cakes from scratch! I always wanted to bake something…mostly because I wanted to eat the batter!
While growing up I was always trying to figure out how to have my own business. At the age of 10 my sister and I formed our first business “USMoney.” We came up with ideas for inventions, making and selling stationary and even started a salon called "Terry's." Although the many businesses we created were tons of fun, my true passion for baking became a reality when my sister & I memorized the chocolate chip cookie recipe and timed how fast we could mix the batter and get the cookies in the oven! From that time on throughout high school and college, and in between my swimming events, family and friends were a great audience for trying out my new recipes. I was always trying to fit cooking into my day!
After graduating from the University of Georgia in 2010, I moved back home and began working in the “real world.” I quickly decided to revisit my passion and Channing’s Cakes and Cookies was born. By satisfying the “sweet tooth” of friends, family and coworkers through the art of baking has been so thrilling! With the help of their support, critiques and encouragement, I have been able to master many classic recipes from the local favorite, Kentucky Derby Pie to the newest trend, the “Cake Pop.”
One more thing I almost forgot to mention….cooking mishaps were actually a blessing for me! My red velvet trifle and my pumpkin pie mousse are actual proof that baking really is an “art” and requires extreme levels of concentrated creativity!
Don’t forget to call me for your next event or party – you and your guests won’t be disappointed!
